Email Subject Line Analyzer Analyzer..

An email subject line analyzer scores your subject lines across seven dimensions — length, spam trigger words, personalization tokens, power words, readability, numbers, and emoji usage — producing a 0 to 100 quality score with a letter grade and specific improvement suggestions. This free tool highlights spam triggers and formatting issues directly in your text, shows exactly how your subject appears on mobile lock screens, and lets you compare multiple A/B variants side by side. The scoring engine checks against 200+ categorized spam phrases and provides actionable suggestions to boost open rates and deliverability. All processing runs in your browser with zero data sent to any server.

How to Use

Get Started in 3 Steps

Step 01

Type Your Subject Line

Enter your email subject line in the text field. The analyzer scores it in real time as you type with a short debounce delay. You’ll see your 0–100 score update live along with a letter grade from A to F.

Step 02

Review the Breakdown

Check the dimension-by-dimension breakdown to see where your subject excels and where it needs work. Each dimension (length, spam risk, personalization, power words, readability, numbers, emoji) shows a pass/warn/fail status with specific details.

Step 03

Compare & Optimize

Switch to A/B Compare mode to test multiple subject line variants side by side. Use the suggestions panel to make targeted improvements, then check the mobile preview to ensure your subject displays well on lock screens.

How It Works

Under the Hood

The analyzer evaluates your subject line across seven weighted dimensions that add up to 100 points: Length (25 pts for 30–50 characters), Spam Risk (25 pts if no spam triggers are found), Personalization (15 pts for merge tags like {first_name}), Power Words (15 pts for engagement-driving vocabulary), Readability (10 pts for clean formatting), Numbers (5 pts for statistics), and Emoji Usage (5 pts for moderate use).

Spam detection reuses the same 200+ phrase database as our Spam Word Checker tool, organized into six categories: urgency, money, pressure, shady, overpromise, and jargon. Each phrase is matched using a longest-match-first algorithm with overlap prevention, so "limited time offer" is counted once rather than matching "limited time" and "offer" separately.

Issues are highlighted directly in your subject line text with color-coded inline markers: red for spam triggers, yellow for ALL-CAPS words, and orange for excessive punctuation. Hovering over a highlighted span shows the specific issue. The suggestion engine then generates actionable fixes ranked by impact — spam word removal and length optimization typically have the largest effect on deliverability.

The mobile preview simulates how your subject line appears on iPhone lock screens (truncated at approximately 40 characters) and in notification centers (approximately 110 characters). All processing runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript — no data is sent to any server.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an email subject line tester and how does it work?
An email subject line tester scores your subject lines across multiple dimensions including length, spam trigger words, personalization tokens, power words, readability, and emoji usage. This tool analyzes your subject in real time as you type, producing a 0–100 score with a letter grade (A through F) and specific improvement suggestions. The scoring engine reuses a database of 200+ known spam trigger phrases and checks for patterns that email filters flag, so you can optimize deliverability before sending. All analysis runs in your browser — your subject lines are never sent to any server.
What makes a good email subject line for cold outreach?
The best cold email subject lines are 30–50 characters long, contain no spam trigger words, include personalization like the recipient’s name or company, and use at least one power word that drives curiosity or urgency without being pushy. Numbers and statistics in the subject line add credibility (e.g., "3 ideas for {{company}}"). Avoid ALL CAPS, excessive punctuation (!!!), and more than one or two emoji. Subject lines that score 80+ on our analyzer consistently outperform those below 60 in A/B tests.
What are spam trigger words in email subject lines?
Spam trigger words are phrases that email providers like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo use as signals when deciding whether to deliver an email to the inbox or spam folder. Common categories include urgency words ("act now", "limited time"), money language ("free", "discount", "$$$"), pressure tactics ("click here", "buy now"), shady phrases ("no risk", "guaranteed"), and overpromises ("100% free", "miracle"). Our analyzer checks your subject line against 200+ categorized spam triggers and flags each match with its severity and category so you can find safer alternatives.
How does the A/B comparison mode work?
The A/B comparison mode lets you enter multiple subject line variants side by side and see their scores, dimension breakdowns, and suggestions simultaneously. This helps you pick the strongest option before sending. Enter 2–5 variants, compare their overall scores and individual dimension performance, and choose the one with the highest score and fewest issues. The comparison is especially useful for testing different personalization strategies, length variations, or power word choices.
What is the ideal email subject line length?
The optimal email subject line length is 30–50 characters. Subject lines in this range display fully on most mobile devices and desktop clients without truncation. Lines under 20 characters often lack enough context to drive opens, while those over 60 characters get cut off on mobile lock screens (which show roughly 40 characters) and may lose their key message. Our analyzer shows exactly how your subject line appears on iPhone lock screens and in notification centers so you can see the truncation point.
